SHOP LOCAL OFTEN

During the month of January in 2022 businesses were beginning to safely reopen after nearly two years of struggling during the pandemic. A number of Vancouver Business Improvements Associations (BIAs) came together for a citywide campaign to encourage people to skip the large corporations and to choose small, local businesses instead. Keeping dollars close to home will stimulate the community, create more jobs and strengthen the economic base of our city.

We created an Instagram campaign where we would post a retail category (pet store, nail salon, floral shop and more!) and participants were encouraged to share their favourite small, local spots on their own Instagram pages. Each time a participant posts, they were entered to win our giveaway, which was $1000 to their favourite local spot in Vancouver. The campaign ran all month and hundreds of local businesses were shared and supported each day. We promoted the campaign through social media ads, posters and cards on counters of retail shops, a full bus wrap and collaborations with local businesses.

Even though the campaign is over we still continue to encourage you to shop local today, tomorrow, often and always! Because if we don’t support them now, they may not be here later.
